Nietzsche, de ‘filosoof met de hamer’ was voorvechter van een dionysische bevestiging van de levenswil. Dit strijdlustige concept werd belichaamd door de Übermensch: het in de toekomst levende resultaat van de zich voortdurend manifesterende “wil tot macht”.
Deze gedachte vond zijn bekendste uitdrukking in zijn beroemde filosofische roman Also sprach Zarathustra, waarvoor hij een tot dusver in de filosofie onbekende vorm gebruikt: op declamerende toon geschreven profetisch klinkende fictie, waarin met name het royaal gebruik van uitroeptekens opvalt.
